Lenny Sefatlhi

Lenny Katlarelo Sefatlhi was born and raised in Botswana. He completed his bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences at Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST) in 2019. His bachelor’s thesis focused on assessing pedo-transfer functions or models to estimate soil bulk density in the Palapye, BIUST area.

In December 2019, he started an internship with the Department of Environmental Affairs in the Environmental Information Management Division. His responsibilities included reviewing Environmental Impact Statements, conducting site visits and audits, supporting environmental awareness campaigns, and organizing stakeholder meetings and workshops.

He completed his master’s degree at BIUST in September 2023. The aim of his research project was to assess the potential of biochars derived from phytoremediation biomasses to adsorb ionic contaminants, specifically phosphate and nitrate ions from wastewater. He is currently pursuing his doctoral studies in Environmental Sciences at BIUST, focusing on activating phytoremediation biochars to remove organic contaminants from wastewater. He was awarded a Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship to join the Multi-Scale Robotics Lab in September 2024.
