Nina Schmid

Nina Schmid was born and raised in Zurich. She received her B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering with a focus in Mechatronics and Robotics from ETH Zurich. During her studies she developed a deeper interest in the fields of medical robotics and targeted drug delivery.

In 2020, she pursued a 6-month internship at Magnebotix AG where she was involved in the development of a control software for magnetic field generators. She continued working there as a software engineer during her M.Sc. in Robotics, Systems, and Control at ETH Zurich. For her semester project, she explored different approaches to increase the generalization capability of motion skills learned through reinforcement learning for physics-based character control.

Subsequently, she conducted her master's thesis at the MSRL where she leveraged generative modeling to enhance vasculature segmentation algorithms. After receiving her degree, she joined the MSRL in September 2024 as a PhD student to work on magnetically actuated robotic devices that facilitate standard medical procedures. Her research focuses on advancing automatization in minimally invasive surgeries using machine learning algorithms.

Apart from research, Nina enjoys spending her free time on sports or traveling.
