Gemma Llauradó i Capdevila

Gemma Llaurado i Capdevila was born and raised in Barcelona. After graduating from an international school in Barcelona, she attended the University of Barcelona, where she pursued a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry.

During her bachelor’s thesis, she studied a redox-active colloidal system for dissipative self-assembly within the ChemInFlow Group, under the supervision of Dr. Josep Puigmartí, Dr. Alessandro Sorrenti, and Dr. James Nicholas. After completing her Bachelor's in 2021, and being fascinated by materials engineering and nanoscience, Gemma pursued an M.Sc. in Applied Materials Chemistry at the same university, which she completed in 2022.

Her master’s thesis, also conducted in the ChemInFlow Group, focused on the synthesis of 2D and 3D covalent organic frameworks (COFs) using confined reaction spaces and microfluidic technologies simulating microgravity conditions. Upon completing her thesis with honours, she continued her research in the group as a doctoral student.

In September 2022, she officially began her Ph.D. studies in Nanoscience under the supervision of Dr. Josep Puigmartí and Dr. Roc Matheu. Her research is centred on the confined synthesis of COFs and metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) at the nanoscale, as well as the formation of heterostructures for biomedical and energy applications.

In her free time, Gemma enjoys photographing nature, playing volleyball, roller-skating, baking cheesecakes, and going to the beach.
