Valentin Gantenbein

Valentin was born in 1995 and was raised in the Principality of Liechtenstein. In 2019 he obtained a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from ETH Zürich. During this time, he first encountered robotics for medicinal purposes as his research studies involved microrobotics for biomedical applications. After graduating, he took a one-year detour to work for a medical device manufacturer in Zürich.

Curious about microfabrication and the potential of the micro- and nanoworld for future applications, he returned to ETH Zürich to pursue a master’s degree in Microsystems and Nanotechnology. During his master’s program, he carried out research projects on flexible sensors and microrobotic systems. He completed his degree with a thesis on metal-organic swarm carrier microrobots. After graduating, he continued to work as a research assistant before joining the MSRL in 2023 as a PhD student. His research focuses on small-scale robotic superstructures.

In his free time, he enjoys endurance sports like triathlon, spending time in the mountains or getting together with friends for dinner and a glass of red wine.
