Review Article in Science Robotics

The Multi-Scale Robotics Lab is excited to announce the publication of a review article on telesurgery in Science Robotics.

The first telesurgery on a human patient took place in 2001, when Prof. Jacques Marescaux performed a full cholecystectomy on a patient in Strasbourg, France, while he was operating remotely from New York City, USA. Despite significant advances in key technological areas such as surgical robotics and telecommunication, the adoption of telesurgery remains slow. Researchers from our Multi-Scale Robotics Lab, in collaboration with the Mayo Clinic, the Frederik Meijer Heart and Vascular Institute, and the University of Toronto, have published a review article in Science Robotics exploring recent advances and the future of this exciting technology.
