Claas Ehmke

Claas was born in the Hanseatic city of Bremen in northern Germany. During his time at high school, he was actively involved in the development of an award-winning robot, which was presented to an international audience at the booth of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research at the Hannover Messe in 2014, among other events. In 2017, he graduated from the Technical University of Munich in Electrical Engineering and Information Technology (B.Sc.). Before starting with his master’s studies, he did a six-month internship at TUMCREATE Ltd. in Singapore where he worked on innovative mobility concepts including an electrification kit for bicycles that was featured in international media.
After this he started his master’s studies in Robotics, Systems and Control at ETH Zürich and graduated in January 2021 (M.Sc.). During his time as graduate student, he joined the Formula Student driverless team of ETH where the team won both competitions in which they participated. After his time at AMZ, he joined the Singapore-MIT Alliance of Research and Technology (SMART) for an internship working on localization of autonomous vehicles.
For his master’s thesis he joined the MIT Langer Lab, where he developed ingestible robots that allow long-term monitoring of the gastrointestinal tract for improved disease diagnosis. The COVID-19 pandemic began during his one-year stay in Boston and he responded with several projects, including the contactless monitoring of vital signs of COVID-19 patients and the development of a remote controller for ventilators. Claas began his doctoral studies at MSRL in February 2021, where he is focusing on integrating electronics into microscale devices that enable novel sensing and actuation technologies.
