Michelle Mattille

Michelle Mattille was born in Zurich, Switzerland in July 1994. She studied Mechanical Engineering with a focus on Robotics and Biomedical Engineering at ETH Zurich. During this period, she worked at ETH's Rehabilitation Engineering Lab for two years, assisting in developing a brain-computer interface for stroke rehabilitation. Her research involved signal processing and the interpretation of brain activity as well as physiological signals. Additionally, she implemented machine learning algorithms to detect motion execution tasks in the brain. Her work contributed to a journal paper.

She further improved her software and robotics skills by programming a collaborative KUKA robot during her 6 months internship at Mettler Toledo.
Her Master’s thesis at MSRL consisted of the design and control of a magnetically guided catheter for minimally invasive foetal surgery. After attaining her M.Sc. with distinction in January 2021 she continued working at MSRL as a research assistant before starting her PhD in August 2021.

Her research focuses on the automatization of minimally invasive foetal surgeries with magnetically guided catheters.
