Carlos Franco Pujante

Carlos Franco Pujante is a Spanish chemist specialized in organic chemistry, with a Master's degree in Fine and Molecular Chemistry from the University of Murcia and a Ph.D. in Material Science from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, which he completed with honors in 2016. His Ph.D. research focused on the synthesis and characterization of stable organic radicals and their application as new electronics and spintronics devices. In 2017, he moved to ETH-Zurich, joining Prof. Puigmarti's group (DeMello's group), where he applied his expertise in organic synthesis and material science to the field of Microfluidics. Specifically, he worked on the synthesis of porous crystalline materials (MOFs and COFs) under microfluidics conditions. Currently, Dr. Franco Pujante is a Senior Scientist in the Institute of Robotics and Intelligent Systems at ETH Zurich, where he focuses on the synthesis and integration of diverse polymers into micro and nanorobots for biomedical applications. He is specifically involved in the development of robotic catheters for embolization and chemoembolization applications.

Dr. Franco Pujante is also a skilled project manager for European and Swiss National grants, with experience in planning and executing projects related to robotics and material science. In addition, he is actively involved in the supervision and mentoring of Ph.D., Master, and Postdoctoral researchers, helping them to develop their scientific and technical skills.

Apart from his academic work, Dr. Franco Pujante is a co-founder and member of the scientific board of the start-up Porous-Ink Technologies in Madrid, Spain, where he contributes his expertise in the development of porous materials for 3D printing applications. He has published over 30 peer-reviewed papers in international journals, including Advanced Materials, JACS, Nature Communications, Science, etc., and has served as a reviewer for many international journals. He has been invited to give talks at international conferences and serve as a session organizer or chair several times. He also serves as a reviewer for international journals.
